We have a darling little boy, Neil. We just received
our first letter from
his birth mom about 2 weeks ago. It has been really important to me (not so
much to him at age 4, but I'm sure it will be later).
When we adopted Neil the Orphanage Director told us that his mother had
cried and cried when she relinquished him, and used to stand outside the
detsky dom and look for signs of him. She had a then 4 yr old daughter she did
not relinquish and had a very hard time parting with him. This broke my
heart, so every 6 months or so I would send a picture of Neil and a note to
tell his mom he was OK. After 3 years she responded! She wrote that she had
not received any letters previously, but that she was so excited to hear
from us and thought he was beautiful. She wrote a lovely, touching letter
to him asking his forgiveness - it makes me tear up to even think about it.
I admit, I had a twinge of jealousy a few days later, but it only lasted a
second. He is my son, she respects that and thanks me, and I respect her
and thank her for everything. Best of both worlds! Neil has two bio-sisters
(one full sib, and a new baby who is a half sib) and she sent a picture of
them. They are beautiful. We are going to keep in touch.
