June 3

Hello! It'll be quick today as we are on our way to the beach. Ok, not a real beach per se, but a nice sandy "beach club" on the river. The weather is gorgeous, and I actually slept in today. I missed out on the chicken heads, but did manage to see a pig head, on sale for the equivalent of $2. I decided that it might not make a great souvenir, so didn't purchase it today. I'm sure I'll have another chance. We are kind of on pins and needles, as we will hear later today if we go to Court tomorrow. A Friday court date would be great, because the judge is a bit of a ...uh...party-er, for lack of a better yet still respectful word, and if we miss out on Friday we will get Monday morning. He is notoriously cranky on Monday mornings. The two main issues will be a) getting Nelly granted a new birth certificate that lists her place of birth as Chernihiv region so we don't have to go to Odessa and b) getting the 30 day wait period waived. IF we go to court Friday, and all is ruled in our favor, we could leave Ukraine on next Thursday or so. If not, we could be here anywhere from 10-30 days more. If that happens, I believe Bill will take the little ones and go home, and Nelly and I will wait it out.

Yesterday, we went sightseeing and entered some absolutely stunning churches. Of course, Bill graciously took the kids so I was able to spend a little time alone, lighting candles for Teresa and Jenna and being silent and thankful for all our good fortune. There is nothing like a 1000-year-old church to spark a spiritual center for me. We are off to the beach club-actually quite a nice place- sand, beach chairs, sand toys and little beer stands. Since the river runs down from Chernobyl, we won't be swimming, but it will be fun to play outside anyway. Get some tan between our bug bites so we don't look like we have the measles! Love and hopefully good news soon! L
